The Home Education Network UK, or THEN UK for short.  

Our web site aims to be a one stop shop for home educators and those wishing to find out more about their legal right to home educate.  Through the various tabs above we hope you will find all the information you need to help you on your Home Educating journey.  

If there is something you can not find or something you think should be on our site then please contact us so we may put this right.

THEN UK is a not for profit, non political membership organisation run by a team of volunteers, we all focus on the need to provide a friendly family type environment in our groups and website and our proud of our friendly reputation.  

THEN UK was founded in 2004, revamped to include a membership in 2007 and thanks to the many volunteers, members and visitors to our site is proud to be what it is today.

THEN UK launch their own General Certificates of Home Education (GCHE)

The Certificates range across 8 levels, ranging from an Introductory Certificate, generally aimed at around the 5 year old age group rising to a Gold Certificate, covering learning and skills generally found at around 16 years plus.

Certificates will only be awarded if all sections are attempted.  In All Levels, at least three sections out of four must be successfully completed, plus in Levels 1 to 3, the Social Skills section must also be completed, unless a dispensation is given. That is four sections out of five.

** Dispensations may be applied for in case of genuine difficulty in reaching the required levels, but evidence must be supplied when applying for the dispensation, and prior to application for the Certificate.  Read more here

THEN UK recently asked its readership for HE stories around the children who have now left compulsory education.  The replies so far as you can tell by reading are from very proud parents, inspiration to all of us especially those starting out with worries and questions. With so many talented youngsters being Home Educated we have recently asked their parents if they would like to submit some of their children’s work to appear in our gallery.  We only have a few submissions so far but more coming soon. Read more here
