General Certificate of Home Education (G.C.H.E)
The Certificates range across 8 levels, ranging from an Introductory Certificate, generally aimed at around the 5 year old age group rising to a Gold Certificate, covering learning and skills generally found at around 16 years plus.
Certificates will only be awarded if all sections are attempted. In All Levels, at least three sections out of four must be successfully completed, plus in Levels 1 to 3, the Social Skills section must also be completed, unless a dispensation is given. That is four sections out of five.
** Dispensations may be applied for in case of genuine difficulty in reaching the required levels, but evidence must be supplied when applying for the dispensation, and prior to application for the Certificate.

General Certificate of Home Education (G.C.H.E)
This is a certification of achievement made by children & young people, not engaged in the schools system.
Aims:
To recognise, celebrate & verify levels of achievement.
Purpose:
To provide a system for recognition of learning and achievement for children & young people educated outside of the school system
Providers:
The Home Education Network UK - THEN UK.
N.Q.F :
These qualifications are not at present recognised by the N.Q.F, accreditation is being sought.
Restrictions:
The General Certificate of Home Education is available to any home educators, upon receipt of the relevant documentation and accompanying fee.
Issue of Certificates:
Certificates will be issued upon completion of moderation.
Moderation will be carried out by Appointed Moderators from the management team of The Home Education Network UK Team.
Moderations:
Moderation will consist of a form containing a declaration that a child or young person has achieved the required elements. This will be signed by a Parent or Guardian. A separate form signed by a witness, who is not a family member or living in the same household as the child should be submitted, verifying the achievements, which should be sent at the same time. Once details have been checked with the witness and the achievement a Certificate will be issued.
Restrictions to Candidates:
The Certificates will be available to any child or young person that learns “Not in School”,upon completion of the relevant level of learning.
Children in Schools may be awarded Certificates at the discretion of the Management Team of The Home Education Network.
Applications for Certificates should include details and supporting evidence of any Special Educational Needs or Disabilities that need to be considered.
No Certificate may be refused on grounds of non completion due to physical, mental or academic disabilities, nor may factors involving culture or religion be used to deny achievement.
Previous Knowledge:
Each level of the General Certificate of Home Education leads to the next. Children & young people should aim to reach the stage relevant to their age, aptitude, needs and ability. Minimum ages are included in the Specifications for each level. Individual applications to receive Certification of a Level usually reserved for an older age group may be applied for by contacting the Moderating Board of THEN UK. Where all safety issues can be satisfactorally overcome, dispensations will be applied.
